At the start I remember feeling absolutely gutted and such utter betrayal, when my own parents (barely 65 and 60yrs) got cross with me, to the point of telling me I had deeply hurt them, when they asked me why my husband and I were not getting the shots. They didn't care about the science and logic I discussed around their and our actual risk, exposure, comorbities and basic immunology and the issues with the shots.
They were focused on why "we wouldnt protect them".
Horrified at their selfishly ignorant response and inability to follow the obvious narrative conclusion, I asked them if they thought my then 6yr old daughter, should have to protect me? I remember with such clarity, the look of hurt confusion in their eyes, at my obvious disgusted and appalled expression, then the guilty glimmer of comprehension and then eyes sliding away, embarrassed, uncomfortable but stubborn, they muttered,
"oh now your being ridiculous, it won't come to that".
I love my parents. I know they adore my daughter and myself.
But frankly, i still can't think about it without being so bitterly disappointed in their cowardice and utter willingness to throw the very people THEY should be protecting, under the freaking bus, in their fearful scramble to protect their lives!!!??
And further on through out this, I have seen nothing but boomers, desperate to cling to immortality, preaching about civic duty, respect for community. Brainwashing and bullying millenials into shielding them. But even worse are the boomers/xgens who are all in the positions of power and public health, forcing THEIR fear and existential crisis on to the children.
I have just wished someone in public media would call a spade a spade and call them out on their cowardice. That is what's kept us all locked in tyranny and pandemia for the last 2+ years. So thank you.
