In the current climate of geopolitics and strong propaganda and disinfo coming from all sides, it can be difficult to extract out anything coherent in a deluge of information (maybe that's the problem!).
The list at the end nicely distilled & clarified recent events into logical, insightful, mini-summations.
I wish I could say I learned something from this. Nonetheless a very good read validating the so-called alternative media conspiracy theorists, who already reported blow by blow, the Russian-Ukraine conflict, that I followed. Since we had a coke head porn lover representing one side and an educated Christian leaded on the other, I dove into both men and it wasn't hard to determine who was credible and respected and who was far from it.
Yet and still, Ukrainian flags were flying all over the world and even the slightest praise for Russia was condemned on a state, local and personal level, thanks to an overwhelming propaganda news media bent on destroying Russia at all costs.
Geopolitically speaking, this conflict was so easy to understand, so easy to connect the dots, so insanely easy to see the US motives, business as usual, that I find myself in direct and complete agreement with Emmanuel Todd as I flick my shoulder with pride for already knowing what he knows. A good feeling. Totally made my day.
I havent read Todd’s book because I couldnt find an english version, so this critique may be wrong, but from what I’ve seen of it, its has both at least one very impactful inaccuracy and a related huge analytical blind spot. The USA did not have a strong centralized national elite until some point after WW2, this is because it was politically and economically decentralized, this decentralization did not only have effects in purely governmental or economic matters, it also had profound effects on, and produced safeguards related to the scientific spheres, the cultural sphere, and also the in-general information ecosystem.
The United States once had genuinely democratic governance structures, however imperfect and limited, fundamentally based around decentralized and publicly accessible mass-member parties. The Democratic Party, as a small "d" democratic institution, and the Republican Party, as a small "r" republican institution, were honest in their naming and functioned within a semi-politically, semi-economically, and semi-scientifically decentralized system. These parties, while far from flawless, allowed for real representation, meaningful participation, and a level of public accountability in both economic and political decision-making.
However, due to the dirty deeds of an assortment of powerful special interest groups, our parties have transformed into centralized, exclusionary membership organizations. The so called Democratic Party has become a technocracy party, and the so called Republican Party became a conservative party. Neither really represents their original principles of democracy or republicanism, and they dont offer meaningful access or representation to the public. This shift has been accompanied by a broader centralization of political, economic, and scientific decision making, which has caused the effective loss of most democratic governance structures.
I agree, the US has lost its democratic foundations and the original concept to function as a republic. It appears to be run by an all powerful deep state, hell bent on prioritising the logic of war and domination as a successful business model over peaceful co-existence with other nations. I hope we are about to see a break in this destructive logic but I won’t hold my breath.
Thanks for this! Fascinating overview of where western civilization is headed, with its increasing reliance on propaganda and attempts to control the populace by a growing deep state and group of pathological elites. Sure smells like fascism to me! The trillion dollar question is how do we break the spell?
The U.S. and its DOD is just the world's policeman. A broke one at that. The City of London financial center and its Wall Street and offshore tax haven subsidiaries, is the world's mayor. Whether the mayor is broke I don't know.
Big parts (if not the entirety as some might say) of the BRICs are also subservient (so far) to the mayor and the policeman.
The erasure of Ethical Values, has left Humanity without a compass. Hammurabi's Code and the plagiarized "10 Commandments", are now seen as archaic and quaint rather than as a Natural Order?
Thanks for providing this summary. After reading this I felt that the author has done a good job of describing and analysing very real effects which we can all see but he did not enlighten me by providing any theory / explanation of the real underlying causes. This left me overall disappointed with the analysis. As an example, taking the situation of Ukraine, it was not mentioned that Russia felt threatened for years since the collapse of the Soviet Union by the progressive expansion of NATO towards its western borders despite assurances from the Western powers that this would not happen. It was not mentioned how this situation further deteriorated for Russia in the 2014 US deep state engineered Maidan coup in Ukraine to install a western friendly government. Yes, Russia’s invasion was illegal but it was heavily provoked and its actions were understandable to protect the Russian speaking population in the East of the country.
That is just one example - another would be the phenomena of the rise of gender ideology. We know this is happening, we know this is dysfunctional in society but why is it happening and why is being pushed so strongly up to UN level, and throughout big corporations. Simply implying that that this is a consequence of the loss of religious values & family values is not enough to explain what is clearly a strongly embedded agenda across the west.
Does this author agree with the concept of ‘The Great Reset’, the global rise of technocracy, the destruction of the nation state as a driving force towards ‘one world’ governance à la UN Agenda 2030?
This author left me with more questions than answers.
The catalyst that propelled the rise of the West from it's "Dark Ages" to a position of world dominance was the invention of the printing press. "Knowledge is power." There arose an accompanying rise of literacy and knowledge, especially knowledge of the Bible, resulting from the Protestant reformers such as Calvin and Luther's admonition to have a Bible in every home. The first book to be printed was the Bible. "A single printer in Wittenberg, Hans Lufft, sold 100,000 copies of the Bible..." (Briggs& Burke, Social History of the Media, 2,005). This enabled the common man to learn of "the laws of nature and Nature's God," forming the basis of Democracy-human rights as opposed to Feudalism. This formed the basis of a dualistic view of reality vs. monism-animism, fueling the rise of science, search for truth. The "Protestant Work Ethic espoused by Calvin and Luther, formed the basis of Capitalism-private property. Along with the decline of Bible knowledge-wisdom in the West, we are witness to the inevitable decline of the West.
It's not about "civilization", it's not about Empire- the retards (in the shadows- completely rejected masoNs)highjacked our country (Republic), it's all about God (JESUS)!!!!!
Excellent article. I learnt a lot from this.

I'm wiser for having read this.

Exactly, fascism / technocracy is what it is.

So its more complicated than just 'the West'.

The lack of values undoes us all. Greed Rules!
Ah, the West, the Free World, the once oh so brightly shining beacon of hope in a world of darkness and tyranny - what happened to you?
Or were you only ever a mirage? 🙄

Repent ye sinners, REPENT!!!
How convenient to have all the 22 other languages translate into but not English, how absurd and utterly OBVIOUS……………!!!!!!!
The West can shut the entire world down with one phoney virus.
Bien joué !
