Four adult children, their spouses, grandchildren (11, 6, and 5) our siblings, cousins.....you get the picture. And the relationships remain intact, but very changed. Particularly with our daughter and son-in-law who told us we were selfish for only thinking of ourselves and not caring for other people. They continue to believe the neo-Marxism rhetoric. Despite them both being very intelligent, and curious, I find it staggering that they haven't seen any of the actual data (the numbers that Greg Hunt promised we would have).
We are walking that tightrope every time we get together. Honesty is there but with great diplomacy to maintain the relationship, which we believe is important enough to avoid those topics which lead to fractures. The ambush you speak of is a perfect descriptor.
