I am forever saying that "depression" is sadness, unhappiness, grief, sorrow... whatever you want to call it, but it's NOT a disease and pharmaceutical drugs won't "fix it", but high chances that it will make you feel worse. Talking from experience, anti depressant numb you and dumb you without a shadow of a doubt. I absolutely believe in the long term they will make your "symptoms"/feelings 100 times worse.
Having had depression myself and both my ex and my late husband suffering through it, I absolutely agree. If need be, one can take something for a few months, as I did 2 years ago (multi causes: scamdemic made me lose contact with friends, sick, allergies, sick dog, hurricane) but quit as soon as I started to get back to myself again. Then one by one all the problems solved themselves! I remember a saying from Tolstoy - the waiting room of doctors is largely filled with people the priest should have seen.. something of that sense. I think 'modern' life has cut people off of friendships, relationships, human contact in general. It is getting harder and harder to establish a real, loving, lasting relationship IMO. When depressive one needs a trusted friend - the last 2 hooked off when I refused the injections, 2 others had recently died. Got 2 that are 'a bit further' both in their 90s!
The loss of real spirituality is probably part of the cause of all these desillusioned, depressive people. Lots of churches do not preach the real Thing, but that is okay, it is better than nothing. Of course it would be better to have a real spiritual preacher!
But the body's response can sort of turn a lever that causes much more use to be made by a particular nutrient, which then drives a deficiency that requires upping intake of that nutrient in order to cope with what would otherwise be normal use...
Dr Abram Hoffer showed successfully that depression has such a trigger on vitB3 [niacin and its variants]....
So to deal with the forms of ''depression'' he had patients begin taking B3 MORE FREQUENTLY, not just big doses that complicate processing internally, but adding up to doses in the 3g per day range --compared to the basically miniscule RDA.... The ''side effects'' are beneficial, and reveal the RDA nonsense... Perhaps this will expand that niacin world.... http://www.doctoryourself.com/hoffer_niacin.html
What a laugh, that was actually tried in a big study for the specific vit C and showed that even skewing the diet in normal foods could not achieve the levels needed for vit C.. Supplements, well used, are a boon to humankind...
And in crisis....
You ain't gonna get the level of C needed to defeat pneumonia UNLESS YOU GOT ACCESS TO HUMAN MOTHER'S MILK [unpasteurized]... no clue on amounts or hours of intake potocol.
But instead, we have seen documented experience with curing pneumonia symptoms within 3 hours by taking vit C in 1g doses every 6 minutes... that's 10g per hour, and to be assured no relapse, continuing to bedtime for a total of hundred.... Supplements! TTYL
I wonder who did the “big study”. I looked after my 96 year old Mum last year who had phenomena, no vitamins, no big pharma drugs, just real foods. I go by my experiences in life. She's still going strong. Doctors told her that she's reached this age due to her lifestyle and lack of drugs. Personally, I eat real foods high in vitamin c, and I'm doing just great. So are you saying that humans can't reach optimal level of vitamin c without supplements? Usually developed by big pharma? I’ll take a risk and avoid big pharma and supplementsall costs. Nothing "funny" about that.... but I appreciate your opinion.
Good for you and your Mum... My sister is in that age category but we subscribe to Linus Pauling's opinion on the LEVEL of vitC NEEDED BY the BODY... He said he'd BELIEVE the GOAT over the FDA, rotfl...
You see, humans [primates, guinea pigs and fruit bats] unfortunately lost the NATURAL ABILITY to convert the glucose in your FOODs into the LEVEL of VitC our bodies were DESIGNED TO NEED for ALL the other members of the ANIMAL KINGDOM... a ''gift'' of evolution....
So the proverbial GOAT's liver produces 10-13 grams per day on NORMAL UNSTRESSED DAYS....
Try that w/o Supplements..
You effectively live on the edge of scurvy and succumb rapidly... Hospital ERs should be immediately hooking patients to IVC the minute they have custody b/c vitC deficiency is rampant in the ER... which is what Dr Klenner did in his clinic WHILE HE WORKED ON THE DIAGNOSING STEPS..... WE probably survived as species when we went through time periods when foods were scarce...
Big Pharma has done every dirty trick in the book to SUPPRESS vitamin cures and protocols....incl our access to supplements, even to the point of having national and international limits on sellable doses... I think they lost at international when people began buying bulk instead of pills...

After reading up on supplements I quit taking almost everything and use only herbs preferably in their natural form. Someone posted a report recently on how supplements are made, specially they 'vitamins'. Yuk!
Good luck on that strategy for the public believing in herbs... Don't get me wrong, we always check what research the herbalists have accumulated and implement their findings as possible but keeping bunches of bonset [for C] or bugle weed [cat's hyperthyroid] or etc in my non-existent attic like Dr Klenner's parents did is a no-go... And Dr Klenner, himself switched to the ''synthesized' version.... For the rest of us, we get herbs from Amazon and even Walmart... And store the foil bags just as assuredly as we do supplement bottles... and herbs exist for their own plant's needs whereas supplements are designed for our needs... ttyl
haha no, I didn't mean that. I buy the herbs dried, some only available as capsules. Unfortunately the possibility to grow, harvest and properly preserve all these herbs are beyond most people's abilities, not to mention the pests that infest some of the home dried herbs. Been there done that. I also use some herbal preparations from an herbalist, so far most of them do the job.
Not a thing wrong with vitamins for some people. Some people are certifiably nuts without large doses of niacin. Try telling these folks (or their care givers) that they just need to "follow this nice diet" and all will be well. They can't do it, they cannot motivate themselves to follow a strictly healthy diet day after day, this inability is part of their condition - so niacin and other vits. are needed. I am not sure I understand Dr Hoffer's making a distinction between vitamin deficiency and vitamin dependency but it it worth looking into. The medical people won't do this, of course.
However, it is true that large doses of vitamins in pill form are functioning as medicine, not so much as nutrients though I am not pretending to grasp this completely, not being a doctor or scientist.
Back to doctoryourself. The founder, Andrew Saul, up and died at a younger-than-average age of a supposed vitamin deficiency disease which he himself briefly mentioned on his site. What the hey...there's more to life than vitamin pills and who is to say that maybe His Time Was Up and that's it.
Andrew was a whirlwind of work and involved in projects world wide, from Australia, to Canada to Europe... Besides the 14 books, and his active role as editor of the Orthomolecular Medicine News Service, there was a period when he was teaching college in NY that he also ran a raw milk farm and taught nutrition classes to inmates at the state prison, hardcore guys...
During the Covid battles, he was the U.S. contact for the FDA National Clinical Trial set up in Wuhan China in the University Hospital by Chinese and American doctors to treat ICU Covid patients with high dose IVC... THAT SUCCESS SHOULD HAVE STOPPED the whole agenda of the Fauci/Gates/etc killers because the orthomolecular team already cured 50 out of 50 ICU level cases and were recognized by the Shanghai CDC broadcasting on TV for ALL DOCTORS in their province TO ADD IVC to their protocols, as well as encouraging adoption on oral by the public...
And that knockout was on **MARCH 3rd 2020** -- in time to have ended the whole terror campaign in the U.S.A....
He was getting into the video world after that -- doing those movies as well as MasterClass webinars, and just about the time I heard his death announced he was getting into something in Northern Ireland and yet everyone was -and still is- reticent suspiciously IMO on what that was.... Trevor King might know....
And that's not even all of his work in those 68 years, 50 as an adult...
At the time of the shocking death announcement, I have the recollection of there being something in political trouble brewing at the time in Britain/Ireland, yet Google can't find any hints of Andrew's name...

The''deficiency'' as cause of death ain't passing the smell test so easily
I've not tried the prescription ones like Prozac but I've tried 5htp, gaba, and natural MAOIs which didn't help my depression/anxiety.
I recently had a lot of progress with ketamine, which is a mild psychedelic. QiGong also boosted its effects as I've learned that movement helps the cerebellum organize long term memory.
It helps the brain undo trauma wired memories and routines. I still had to work through the issues but it gave me a wider self awareness to understand and move on.
I'm surprised that it wasn't used before. But then even neuroscience didn't care to look into the study of consciousness up to the 90s. I think it was because they used the hippie movement to color psychedelics as crazy making and push people onto patented drugs that turn them into addicts. Yes, ssris and benzodiazapines are chemically addictive by definition because withdrawal causes big problems!
This is spot on. But the entire DSM is full of “diseases” defined by committees. Homosexuality was once considered highly abnormal and a “disease.” Then, presto changeo, it’s not. 😳
So true…I also think alcoholism is of the same driving force. ~~~~”"Depression is what a body and a mind do when something is wrong — wrong in a life, wrong in a diet, wrong in the conditions a person is forced to live inside. It is a response, not a defect. Medicine took the response, called it the disease, and built an industry on suppressing the signal.”~~~~Going to the liquor stores in different socio-economic, different states, different countries, and my own experience ….leads me to believe that people drink to excess to take the pain away because there is no other remedy for the situation… bad marriage, wrong color skin, wrong birthright…. The hierarchy surely wants to suppress the signal. Shut up and keep slaving away. Drink if you must.
Been in practice now 25 years as a Naturopath. I use homeopathy routinely with depression, and it does work for most. Been telling patients that entire time that depression is not a "disease."
It's mostly grief, stress, PTSD, in other words, life. But a brain disease? Never made sense. When it's explained gently to the vast majority of patients, they totally resonate with the concept that depression is their lived response to sundry difficulties. It's the clinician's that are so easily duped, and not just the conventional ones.
As usual, this writer just knocks it out of the park.
Depression is watching or listening to the MSM or the wonkers in the DC Cesspool. But the medical mafia and its clown show is the most depressing thing of all...especially as you age and come to the realization that you are on your own, health wise.
Oh wait, that's actually a good thing...see, no more depression. Perhaps changing your thought focus away from things that are "depressing" or that have been hanging around in your thought pattern for years or decades is a good first step. The past is long gone and no amount of "depressing" over it will ever change it.
Another chapter in how to weaponize normal behaviour. Remember, before the Federal Reserve, most of the experts were experiential: craft honed by years of just doing and learning and found through the grapevine. Like those in their tribes (used loosely and does not necessarily apply just to indigenous cultures), the expert was not singled out for their erudite vocabulary but honored for what they did or accomplished. And their willingness to teach the next generation.
With the advent of the Federal Reserve, came the poisons, distributed through the air, water, food, education and cultural icons. The actual toxins dumbed us down; the other toxins made us hate each other and worship icons instead of God. The Federal Reserve then periodically manufactured scarcity so we won't have the energy to figure out who we are and will be satisfied with working 40 years to have our tiny plot of land with a small dwelling in it. Then we die and the cycle repeats again.
And who enforces this: the experts using made up science, made up vocabulary, made up theories, made up reality (the media and now social media). So now that the grip of the experts in shaping our perception (reality) is weakening, we can see the lies. However, the way to get back is to use the grapevine to find someone, who may be educated, as in an M.D. but who is willing to deal with a person as an individual, not a number in a cohort study. The less we use globalists paradigm and go back to local, the healthier we will be and the easier to organize against government overreach.
Depression is a reset program designed to protect you. Imagine hunter gatherers are unable to catch or find food. They’d be down in the dumps. But hunger and innate drive. Makes you get up and go back at it. Depression wants you to rest and ruminate aka problem solve why your tummy is growling. In today’s day and age we just go to the fridge to eat no drive to find food so we ruminate about our failure and internalize it blaming one’s self. Now they lay on the couch mentally beat themselves up causing the depression cycle to repeat endlessly.
Peter I think on a major cause of depression. In old times there was no time for depression - or you would die for hunger/thirst! Depression is a modern life crisis.
Agreed. That’s my point. What I described was a depressed state (not catching food) hunger will force you to get up and go out again. In modern times we don’t have to be physically active to eat. The modern mind turns inward.
When I lost my husband, a friend-lawyer told me not to take any major decisions within the first 6 months. I think that is, for a start. It has now been 17 years and I still have 'sad days'. I think the pain never goes away, there will always be that hole that no one else can fill. 14 months seems very reasonable to me. That is when your body gets used to the screaming emptiness. The first year all the alone-lived birthdays, Christmas, new year, easter,... memorial days of how it was. After that, life starts to flow a bit better again.
You dismiss the chemical basis to solving the effects of sadness, etc on performance of ones roll in the life and lives around you...
You should explore the history of Dr Abram Hoffer -- Canadian psychiatrist of 50-ish years ago -- whose work on niacin was the bane of the medical establishment in treating originally SCHIZOPHRENIA with a protocol of NIACIN... CURING and consequently envied for initial interest by the hospital, so his peers began altering their diagnoses to retain control of their practices rather than let the University Hospital order transfer of those patients into Hoffer's care..... But Hoffer's experimenting then led to his use for DEPRESSION as well as PTSD, etc...
Hoffer's theory:
the body's response to tragedies and horrors can sort of turn a lever [DNA switch?] that causes much more use to be made by a particular nutrient, which then drives a deficiency that requires upping intake of that nutrient in order to cope with what would otherwise be for normal use...
The ''side effects'' are beneficial [HEART and ARTHRITIS, etc], and reveal the RDA nonsense... Perhaps this will expand that niacin world.... http://www.doctoryourself.com/hoffer_niacin.html
Reminds me of James Hillman's book Blue Fire..melacholia/Saturn lead etc.the body's way of finally slowing one down to address the inner soul plight...
seems the internal combustion engine meant they could use same and similar formulas to cause mental illness, testing and knowing how benzenes cause mental illness, VOC signalling could be a parallel system in small doses to larger and larger amoounts, A whole network of criminals, getting free houses, cars, and cash to toxify their local area, rig ventilation ducts of hospitals, libraries, police stations. VOC signalling as skinner box conditioning, benzenes, internal combustion and now mental control grids of varying levels, Land mining teams around chicken farms, dairies and the like. To neighborhood spray houses, causing overall chaos as an invading army spews the VOC ancient signalling to epic proportion. Fearing into vaccine needles for the quick decline.
My mind is kind of funny - I think from time to time that there will soon enough be an economic/social collapse, as in: not-enough food in the stores, non-availability of medicine, complete or partial disorder, violence in the streets over and above the usual amount, police everywhere trying to deal with the chaos, sick people ejected from hospitals, etc.
And right away I wonder what will become of the millions of persons dependent on prescription drugs for mental challenges but they no longer have access to them (as well as purely physical ones such as hypothyroid disease, where they MUST have their thyroid pill every day or they will die.)
I also include in my concerns the lack of availability of coffee, which a huge number of people cannot function without, and if they are denied their coffee, they nearly go berserk from the headache and other symptoms. For days on end. Can you see them running about acting nuts?
Can you imagine a society/country where millions don't have these drugs which kind of keep them at least marginally stable according to typical standards? Do I have a mental illness because I think about this possibility? Don't be shy, I can handle whatever you say. I don't feel depressed but in recent years I do consider this possibility of our system caving in.

Agreed. That’s my point. What I described was a depressed state (not catching food) hunger will force you to get up and go out again. In modern times we don’t have to be physically active to eat. The modern mind turns inward.
Two months? Church of England ministers used to be told to expect a widow to grieve for fourteen months.
"Doc, I can't tell if I'm suffering from depression or just having trouble dealing with living in a world controlled by homicidal pedo psychopaths."
The ''side effects'' are beneficial [HEART and ARTHRITIS, etc], and reveal the RDA nonsense... Perhaps this will expand that niacin world.... http://www.doctoryourself.com/hoffer_niacin.html

"In the United States, the share of working-age adults reporting disability from depression tripled during the 1990s."
Exactly when Dr. Breggin was trying to warn everyone about psych meds.
Brilliant article, thank you!
