"This understanding is relevant today because it demonstrates that organisms can actively adapt to their environment and pass these adaptations to future generations. This challenges the purely random nature of evolution proposed by Darwin and suggests a more dynamic relationship between organisms and their environment."

Great post and wonderful to see challenges to Darwin's evolutionary theory of DNA as a fixed determinant of health and fitness where what can be measured in snapshots is assumed to be a full picture across time because one sequence delivers the key to understanding life.

“powerful creators of our own biological realities”

We are not the God of ourselves. We work as humble creations and in cooperation and collaboration with the plan of Our Lord. Not just a belief, but a reality of what is the good, the true and the beautiful .

“Belief” may not be the best word to describe the issue. We all have beliefs and, fortunately, very few of them are “expressed” in real life. Even with this limited expression, this world is a mess. The human realm is absolutely chaotic, in full-time discord with everything, and constantly being out-regulated and de-regulated by our modern inventions: marketing, propaganda, agenda-driven actions plans, social media, power games, legal fictions, and more. Unlike the animal, plant and environment realms - which are in perfect harmony and in beautiful mutual self-, intra- and inter-regulation.

When we use “altered states of consciousness” in the place of “belief”, the outcomes are more predictable and programmable. To have a tangible change in the real world, we need to enter an altered state of consciousness, make relevant decisions while in there, reinforce them with certain rituals, and “come back” to the normal waking awareness with the new program activated. Even then, the materialization of the change is not guaranteed.

This process is well known from the MLM practice, where naïve victims are being told that “everything is possible, you only need to change your mind” (= beliefs). Nope, they will not succeed. They were put in a temporary environment of altered states (gathering, mutual assurances, examples, glittering gold and checks, etc.), but without reinforcement (on a daily basis) and rituals they will fail miserably. With lost time, hopes, debts and wasted friendship landscape.

Because you cannot watch a few clips, read a few sentences here and there, and become a “leader” or “teacher” of “change your mind, change your life”. The process is complex, and we only see it in random, incoherent bits and pieces in psychology or mental modalities. The best of all, there is no one universal curriculum for this process. You are the process - the particular person in the particular phase of your life, with particular contributing factors from the past, strengths and weaknesses from the now, and opportunities and threats from the future (aka inspirations).

The ancient sages knew it perfectly well. “Know thyself” (first) is the essence of this process. They knew that your guide (replaced now by “leaders” and “CEOs”) can only help you in the areas they themselves visited, survived and returned to this lifetime. Which is why ancient systems of “recognizing epigenetics” differentiated between teachers (proficient in second-hand knowledge) and masters (wisdom-bearers).

We’ve managed to destroy even this. “Social media” replaced and dwarfed school education, which in itself has always been a poor substitute of the preparation for “adult” life. Lifetime education and self-development are almost extinct, pushed out by quick bucks, arrogance (as in absence of self-reflection on the limited nature of our perception of the world), love for hierarchy and power games, and the all-time winner of “I am better than thou”.

It’s not an easy time for those who are the real creators of this reality: people who are sensitive, compassionate, responsible and caring.
