Thanks ! That was brilliant. They are trying to bring back masks where I live. Last time I was polite and quietly disgruntled. This time I will take great pleasure in using my superlative, generationally enhanced, store of potty mouthed expletives.
I was shocked when I went in for a dental cleaning a few days ago and the mask signs were up again in the waiting room (due to insane AWFL Sara Cody running Santa Clara County as her personal virtue-signaling operation).
I decided that if anyone said even one word to me about wearing a mask, I'd leave on the spot and tell them why. No one said anything. Another guy came in, looked at me, and also did not wear a mask. The woman across from me who was wearing one, took it off!
Had my cleaning, and confirmed with dentist that It really was entirely the fault of Sara Cody. He wasn't happy about it, but felt trapped by this unelected bureaucrat.
On the way out, the hygienist offered me a mask. I just said "I'm not going to put that on" and left.
This reminds me of The Matrix movie in that anyone in the matrix can become "an agent." Same principle as turning into a rhino. I have seen it many times since the beginning of the GMC, among friends, family, and colleagues.
I remember seeing a b&w TV adaptation of one of his plays many years ago - might have been Rhinoceros, but certainly was in the absurd genre - possibly by the American Film Theatre. My own go-to piece of art-imitating-life fiction, from an early age, was the film after which my substack is named. It's power derived from the utter helplessness you feel when all of your friends and family succumb to some malevolent external entity, that you alone are able to resist - sort of like in some dreams, or like what happened during the recent worldwide scam. That definitely was/is a case of where 'the rest of the world is crazy, not me.'
Oh thank you for taking about Rhinoceros the play. I’ve done a lot of theatre and was backstage for that one. It’s been in my head since the start of the Pandemonium. It makes the point so clearly and succinctly. I love the absurd playwrights.
So many became rhinoceros and still are. And the odd person who isn’t asleep then falls for the Voice and climate change agenda. I hope enough people ignore the attempt to go back towards nonsensical restrictions for an imaginary scourge.
The hardest person for me is my 83 year old mother. We connect and support each other but she thinks I have become a right wing conspiracy theorist. My husband struggles with some of what I believe but that has more to do with his emotionally deprived childhood which he is working hard on healing.
The thing that gives me a lot of strength is the ritual I do every week to bring more light into our Earth and push back the dark forces. That fills me with gratitude and hope which helps me to feel deep compassion for the rhinos.
Great article! "Rhinoceros" is the quintessential play for our times. I write about it in the context of humor vs. totalitarianism, likening the character of Bérenger to Jimmy Dore:

Me too.

Please proceed!😀😼🎯

👍
My coworker turned into a Rhino when he supported jab mandates with glee.
My neighbor turned into a Rhino when she disinvited my wife and I from a dinner party because we were not jabbed.
The association that represents my professional class turned into Rhino when they threatened imposing a jab mandate (but they failed).
A coworker turned into a Rhino when he/she anonymously filed a complaint because I never wore a mask...
It is the play for our time, indeed.
Thanks for reminding me of Rhinoceros...I read it years ago when I was studying French.
People ignore the zipper rule....even when there is a sign. I personally think because people
on the left merging into the right think they have the right to merge whenever, it makes traffic
come to a standstill...very dangerous.
To quote Scar, of Disney’s Lion King, “I’m SURROUNDED by idiots.”
I love this.

Again thank you for a wonderful article! 🦏
