Fortunately, most of the “normal” people do not search for jobs with the “+$1,000 monthly for obesity drugs” condition.

The profit margin must be insane. 10 grams of powdered chemicals sold for a thousand? Wow. Will have to reconsider our space missions, we earn only a few bucks per gram of virtual “satellites” which we virtually send into the virtual orbit, all paid to highly professional 3D and multimedia geeks.

The medical cult has already concluded that carrots work better than sticks. Now we have an explosion of “fat is great, obese is normal, family fat is justified” and other welcome messages to join the club of prospective drug fans.

The boring life on the Earth colony starts to be interesting. Monotony of two sexes and two genders has already been broken. Body composition (aka fat content) is being managed as we speak. I guess, cosmetics will follow soon. “Bad odor from your armpits means that you are natural” or “Don’t wash your clothes, you will be as attractive as the clean ones” will pave the way for new drugs to enhance what the financial depts. decide to promote this year.

What next? Why not remove “parents” from birth certificates? It’s a shame you have only two parents…

PS. This article is unique. Thank you for the excellent and concise format. May I ask for a sequel? “How physical work prevents obesity”. And another: “How desktop activities ruin your health”. For real.

Thanks Geoff. I will add it a further reading section.

The commercials are funny because they are forcing really fat people to sing and dance.

Thanks for the info. Check out this commercial for Ozempic masquerading as a 'warning.' Osborne had to stop taking Ozempic because she has lost so much weight--OMG, the horror! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtptYTYDDNE

Good point! Ad pretending to be a warning!

There is no bottom these people will not stoop to.

So if one is does have Type II diabetes, I suspect that insurance is paying for this crap? It makes me angry because I'm on "Obamacare" now (retired early and not eligible for Medicare yet) which means I pay an enormous premium and still have an enormous deductible. My yearly out-of-pocket is around $29,000 before I would get anything covered beyond a yearly physical and mammogram. Now I know why. I do sympathize with people who struggle with weight, blood sugar, etc. But at the same time, they are driving up the cost of health care for the rest of us. Part of it is that they are not getting good advice from their doctors about nutrition and lifestyle changes that would nip this in the bud long before they even became diabetic.

Get out. You do not need to participate in the system.

You're probably right. My concern would be if something catastrophic were to happen. It's a wilderness out there without insurance.

My elder friend doesn’t have diabetes nor is she particularly overweight, but when she went to her doc complaining of her belly fat, he immediately told her she was insulin resistant and gave her an Rx for Ozempic. No testing, no asking what she ate. Now her insurance pays for it (Medicare advantage program). There are some foods she cannot eat anymore. I can’t see she’s lost any weight either. Maybe Ozempic was the better one for her though. Not the stronger one.

Disturbing!

Spot on! You connected all the dots again.

Since at least the 70s people have been told to not think for themselves regarding their health, as they don’t have the knowledge to do so. Rather just take an aspirin and call/see your doc in the morning. People run to ERs for a cold or splinter or low grade fever. There is no longer basic health info handed down by elders, and no common sense in dealing with their own bodies. Docs and Big Pharma have primed and brain washed all that there is a PILL that can fix anything wrong, you don’t need to take any responsibility except to take that pill. Of course people today don’t know that Health never comes in a magic pill, ever, and many will argue with you that it does.

I’ve often said I should write a book...What Your Grandmother Didn’t Told You and Your Mother Never Knew.

People hunger for meaning and purpose. Modern society offers fake, ultra-processed substitutes that can never satisfy, sprinkled with highly palatable lies formulated to discourage pursuing a path that would lead to understanding and healing.

Big Food has been getting is sick for a long time. Most packaged food in the store comes from 2 or 3 mega corporations, so there really isn’t as much choice as you think.

Using weight loss drugs is a lot like taking out a home equity loan to pay off credit card debt. It’s too easy and does not require significant behavior modification and there is no pain or sacrifice involved. The majority of people who use home equity loans to pay off credit cards end up with the same credit card debt a few years later, and a home equity loan to pay off. It’s the same with these weight loss drugs.

Most people are just too lazy and spoiled and want things the easy way. But that’s not how any of this works.

Funny what the “$cience” crowd considers to be logical eh? If we can’t make everyone diabetic, at least we can sell them the drug forever.

MD here. Excellent list of questions.

One thing is: GLP1 drugs "work "to drop HgbA1c and weight. Often they work really well. Many patients love them. That is a bit scary imo

There is another side effect of these drugs that I learned about from my dermatologist. It's called Ozempic face. The rapid weight loss can remove fat very quickly from the face, causing sagging and wrinkling.

Thank you for illustrating the harmony between Big Food and Pharma (I was going to write "Big Pharma" but is there any other type today?)

If I recall correctly, at the start of the first Obama term, Michelle initiated an anti-obesity campaign for the young, focussed on diet, lifestyle and exercise. It was quickly stopped. Wonder why?
