I marvel at the hubris and the non-stop marketing of how G-damned wonderful we are -- despite contrary evidence everywhere of the creeping rot and abject criminality of the country.

This is my point about Lerman. I appreciate her insight; I do. Yet these proclamations about her caring and beliefs that the government cared about her??? Is that all she cared about? This is adolescent. And maddening in the context of what this government has done both here and abroad for decades...
And we're talking murder here, GerdaVS. Economic destruction. Coups. Invasions. Occupations. Here at home slow deprivation of once-sacred protections. Did Lerman think this was all done for her benefit? Of the Americans that do think, do they share Lerman's POV?
I know people don't like to have this pointed out -- and that is one of the prime ways an entire nation can be led off a cliff. "You're making me feel bad..."
As my mother would often say when she told us stuff we didn't want to hear, but needed to, "Oh, well."
I so understand every single one of your words and I agree. A sign that those criminal activities which are now attacking the health of its VERY OWN US people should be an indication that the perpetrators are not the visible government. They are just the dumb tools. Here RFK has been put into a position to stop the damage in the health region, the result of which will eventually filter out and benefit the health of the world-population too. And .... in the process...... hopefully expose who the criminals really are.
