Since I have far too much experience in this realm I advised my daughter-in-law to make her own formula like I did after she went back to work. I made a side by side list of the nutrients in raw milk formula compared to what was in her formula. She read it and went out directly to buy raw milk, vit c, olive oil, molasses and whatever else I put in there during my day. I was so proud of her.

Not even days later she came home and poured all down the sink and said her doctor told her that raw milk would kill her baby, that no way her baby could tolerate milk. To wit I said "And you believed him". She said, "but I bought organic formula". I thought, isn't organic poison kinda like an oxymoron, but I let it go.

Excellent article! Inspiring and affirming.

Strangely, though, I'm holding my breath, wondering if some of your readers will find something to gripe about...like they did with your wonderful, recent article about unassisted childbirth. Truth be told, I was disheartened and surprised with the amount of negative comments about a topic that veered away from the brainwashing about the often unnecessary and unquestioned practice of medicalized/hospitalized births. Here's hoping today's readers will keep heads and hearts open, and that they'll trust in letting natural processes prevail.

Indeed, I think that Shanley's message is a profoundly important one. Few women will read her and decide to go it alone, but I was hoping it would show that it can be done without the Cartel, and that at most, minimal support at home is all that is required.

The point is to find the trust in body and courage that has been destroyed.

Shanley's viewpoint, although extreme to many, is far, far closer to the truth than current "conventional wisdom".

This was so good, thank you. Your opening sentence should be plastered everywhere.

I only recently learned that most baby formula contains seed oils. Between vaccinations and the terrible ingredients in formulas our babies don’t stand a chance at optimum health.

Most moms stop breastfeeding at 6-7 months when the first teeth come in. Not all moms can, for various reasons. Why the Colestrum can't be pumped for a couple of days has repercussions in lower immunity. Then if you choose bottle feed. But choose the brand wisely, it comes with side effects. GERD is the biggest issue. Nexium is used to treat it.

My three boys used powdered skim milk, I was not able to breastfeed. Not one formula on the market in the 1970's was digestible. Nor was whole milk, or goat milk, Skim worked but was expensive. Thus the powdered milk and rice cereal, and liquid vitamins, they thrived with out being over weight. The GERD STOPPED. Doctors then were not pushy about formulas, as long as a child was thriving. A few years later that changed. The word FREE FORMULA is magic, and more women were working to make ends meet.

I have a question and it doesn’t totally relate but it kind of does and I don’t know where else to ask….when babies have conjunctivitis I know people say to drop some breast milk in the eye. What are some healthy natural options if you no longer have breast milk?
